During her college career, the women’s bowling team consistently ranked second in the region. “They told me that I had to take the beginner’s class because I was a freshman, so for fun I would bowl with my opposite hand, which would upset some people.”Ī bowler since her father taught her at the age of 7, Buckner received her first formal training when she met the coach of the Chico State team, Nancy Cooper. “I remember trying to sign up for the advanced bowling class my freshman year,” McGrath said. After his freshman year, he joined the PBA and competed on its summer tour throughout his college career. Already a member of the American Bowling Congress league, he won the first tournament he ever entered at the 1965 Portland Open.
